National Conference on Cancer Prevention and Early Detection

The overall objective of this conference is to increase health professionals' knowledge of the advances in the
prevention, detection, diagnosis and
treatment of cancer.
After attending this conference, participants should
be able to:
- Identify communication opportunities between
primary care practitioners and community
health professionals.
- Cite risk assessment procedures and genetic
factors related to site-specific diseases.
- Interpret cancer prevention updates on behavioral dynamics, chemoprevention issues,
tobacco, diet and nutrition, physical fitness
and exercise, skin cancer and healthy youth.
- Practice cancer prevention and early detection
procedures learned in the skills development
workshops.
- Cite and utilize patient/provider communication methods including counseling skills and
office reminder systems.
- Identify and discuss the biological and ethical
aspects of genetic screening to assess cancer
risk.
This program is designed for primary care providers,
community heals professionals and providers, managed
care directors, and medical school faculty and staff.
Registration fees are:
$325 for physicians and $225 for all other health professionals for registration postmarked by March 29, 1996 or
$375 for physicians and $275 for all other health professionals after March 29, 1996.
- The American Cancer Society is accredited by the
Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical
Education to sponsor continuing medical education for
physicians.
- The American Cancer Society designates this continuing medical education activity for 16 credit hours in
Category 1 of the Physician's Recognition Award of
the American Medical Association.
- Requests for continuing education credits for this conference will also be filed on behalf of family physicians, doctors of osteopathic medicine, and nurses.
